The John Pirelli Lodge #1633 OSIA and the Societa Di Mutuo Soccorso Italiana of Dayton, Ohio are pleased to be hosting the Bocce Classic XVI.

You are invited to participate in the John Pirelli Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America BOCCE CLASSIC XVI, which will be held on July 16, 2010 weekend.

The BOCCE CLASSIC XVI will be a held under a new format. Each team will play four games for qualification into a 64 team tournament. The emphasis will be to play is to win and to win is to play. Entry fees will be $225.00 per team if paid before June 30, 2010 and $250.00 per team for entries received after June 30, 2010. Pre-sell dinner tickets for Saturday’s Boccetoni dinner are available to team members for $10 each. Dinner include a large serving of rigatoni pasta, meatball, sauce bread, salad, desert and your choice of beer or wine. All other ticket requests for the dinners will be $15. Food tickets for meatball/sausage sandwiches are available pre-sell to players at last year’s cost of $4 and draught beer for $2 per glass will be available pre-sell. Both items can be ordered on the entry form. A player’s t-shirt will be available for $10 pre-sell. Live music will be held on Friday and Saturday nights so your non bocce playing family and friends can enjoy an Italian Summer evening on the John Pirelli grounds with their wine, beer and food being available.

John Pirelli’s bocce courts will be available for all teams to practice from 6:00pm through 10:00pm, beginning on Monday evening, July 12, 2010 through Thursday evening, July 15, 2010. For out of area teams, a Friday practice from noon to 4pm will be made available. Teams must sign up for courts with the tournament staff in advance. These procedures will be explained in your tournament package. Tournament play will commence at 6:00pm on Friday, July 16, 2010. Opening ceremonies will commence at 5:45pm.

This year, the top teams in the Bocce Classic will be invited to play in the World Cup of Bocce Championship on Sunday July 18th. This invitation only championship will provide a prize package for team and individual representation in the United States Bocce Federation, tournament entry fee and travel expenses to another bocce tournament or cash equivalent.

We have enclosed a registration form for your team entry. Registration forms and other detailed information are also available online at In the near future you will also receive a “flyer” that provides information about other activities that are planned for the BOCCE CLASSIC XVI weekend. Food, beverages and gifts will be available during the weekend. No outside food or drink will be permitted on the grounds. Prize money will be based on the number of teams entered. The Bocce Classic scholarship, Culture Works and the Huesman Heart Foundation will be included in our contribution to the selected charities.
