You are invited to participate in the John Pirelli Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America BOCCE CLASSIC XVII, which will be held on July 15-17, 2011 weekend.

The BOCCE CLASSIC XVII will be a held under a new format. Each team will play six round robin games for qualification into a 32 team tournament to be held on Sunday. Games will be 35 minutes in length with 5 minutes between games. Entry fees will be $225.00 per team if paid before July 1, 2011 and $250.00 per team for entries received after July 1, 2011 Pre-sell dinner tickets for Friday’s Outback Steakhouse dinner are available for $10 each. All proceeds from the Outback Steakhouse dinner will go to the Bocce Classic Scholarship. On Saturday, the Kettering Relay for Life cancer charity organization will host a spaghetti dinner for $7. All the proceeds from the Saturday dinner will benefit the Relay for Life. Food tickets for meatball/sausage sandwiches are available pre-sell for $4 each, Pizza for $8 and draught beer for $2 per glass. All items can be ordered on the entry form. A player’s t-shirt will be available for $5. Live music will be performed on Saturday night by the Eric Clapton cover band Slowhand and a DJ/karaoke will provide entertainment on Friday evening. A silent auction and raffle will be held to benefit the charities. Please invite your family and friends so they can enjoy an Mid Summer Night Music Festival on Saturday evening on the John Pirelli grounds with their wine, beer and food being available.

John Pirelli’s bocce courts will be available for all teams to practice from 6:00pm through 10:00pm, beginning on Monday evening, July 11, 2011 through Thursday evening, July 14, 2011. For out of area teams, a Friday practice from noon to 4pm will be made available. Teams must sign up for courts with the tournament staff in advance. These procedures will be explained in your tournament package. Tournament play will commence at 7:00pm on Friday, July 15, 2011. Opening ceremonies will commence at 6:45pm with a skills competition beginning at 6:00pm for cash prizes.

We have enclosed a registration form for your team entry. Registration forms and other detailed information are also available online at In the near future you will also receive a “flyer” that provides information about other activities that are planned for the BOCCE CLASSIC XVII weekend. Food, beverages and t-shirts will be available during the weekend. Please, no outside food or drink on the grounds. If you have a special request, please ask. Prize money will be based on the number of teams entered and payouts for the skills competition, round robin pool winners and the top positions in the tournament will be paid. The Bocce Classic Scholarship, The Kettering Relay for Life, the John Pirelli/WSU Italian American Scholarship and The Sons of Italy will be benefactors of this year’s event.
